My photos of the Black Bayou are from a series I have been compiling since October, 2004, Touring the Mississippi Delta. This area is the southern corridor of Glendora, MS and the location of the first settlement of African Americans.  The history is eloquently drafted by Temita Davis for Glendora's website at: http://www.glendorams.com/GlendoraHistory.html
The photo images of the bridge have direct ties to the murder of Emmett Till. It is believed, through oral history, that this is the bridge that Till was thrown from after he was beaten and shot in Glendora. He was wrapped in barbed wire & tied to a 70 lb. gin-fan. From this bridge, Till's body floated west over to the Tallahatchie River, about 1/2 mile away, and drifted down to Phillip, MS where his body was finally discovered.
The fields and wooded area adjacent to the Black Bayou are now the location for the first family park & recreational area in the West Tallahatchie County district, and the projected site for an outdoor concert amphitheater, and a RV campsite. -- MH
